Although my opening skills have since improved, my adaptability and fighting spirit remain some of my strongest assets.

About me
I am a 19-year-old sophomore studying Computer Science at VinUniversity and (more importantly!) a self-trained chess player who got from 1300 to almost 2100 in less than 4 years (due to the COVID-19 pandemic that forces me to quit playing then, the real playing period is probably around 2 years only). I would love to share my experience with chess enthusiasts especially the ones that don't have much time on chess like me!
Playing Experience
I've competed in numerous prestigious Open and youth tournaments across Vietnam and Eastern Asia. My accomplishments include:
Vietnam U20 Blitz Runner-up (2023), along with many other individual and team medals in Vietnam's Youth and Open tournaments
Eastern Asia U20 Youth Chess Championship in Thailand - Rapid Winner (2022)
22nd ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2024 in Laos - Standard Bronze (Individual) and Gold (Team) Medalist
Proud member of the Hanoi Youth Chess Team
Teaching Experience
Since age 18, I’ve been teaching chess both online and face-to-face, with different types of students from developing kids to competitive teenagers aiming to play better competitively. Teaching international students is not a big problem for me, as I am studying at an international university and hold the 7.5 IELTS certificate.
Best Skills
In my early years, I underestimated opening theories and just tried to play pet lines to cut the need of memorization. Through periods of playing competitively, self-studying and teaching, I am convinced that understanding both the openings' ideas and theories is essential for sustainable growth. Currently, I am offering my students straightforward opening repertoires with little theories but ideas to develop their understanding first, then gradually get the theories to catch up with them, so that they can have the opening interest at first to improve their results and the deep understanding later for higher rating climb. Opening is certainly my biggest strength, especially for fighting toe-to-toe with higher-rated players for a result (several draws with Black against strong prodigious IMs like Dau Khuong Duy and Prin Laohawirrapap are the evidence), but I also possess calculation strength and tips that can be shared to players through deep dive-in and can be applied in many other aspects of the game.
Teaching Methodology
In my lessons, I use a 70-30 method: 70% studying (opening is always prioritized until the student has solid understanding), 30% playing and analyzing (to make sure they remember the opening and have a chance to practice and get analysis from the coach). Occasionally, I share my success stories from real tournaments as a lesson for what my students should and should not do. With that method, I can get my students to become fearless over the board, thus making interactive online lessons more valuable. In training sessions, I demand the students to play the introduced openings even if they are not familiar. I believe that every chess player should embrace mistakes as opportunities for growth and fix. After all, I allow my students to actively think by including quizzes during lessons, and questions regarding their feelings after taking my lessons for further critical thinking. Overall, chess is an autonomous game where everyone is a king of their army, not a servant for their missions.

Teaching Methodology
Together, we’ll create a tailored plan for your chess development based on an analysis of your games. I emphasize learning from classic games to capture the essence of chess. Each session begins with tactical exercises as a warm-up, followed by a focus on positional, tactical, or opening themes, and concludes with exercises on the day’s theme. Homework assignments will reinforce these concepts through individual practice. Blindfold games and selected positions are also part of the training. This general plan will be adjusted according to your skill level to ensure optimal progress.
